Why it matters

It is a quick, repeatable signal of how people feel about working somewhere and can warn of rising turnover.

Where it is used

Engagement surveys and HR dashboards. Used by people analysts, HR business partners, HR directors and senior leaders.

How to calculate it

eNPS = % promoters (scores 9 to 10) - % detractors (scores 0 to 6)

Worked example

ILLUSTRATION. Raket Parts B.V. holds no survey data. Suppose 120 employees answer "How likely would you recommend this company as a place to work?" on a 0 to 10 scale: 42 score 9 or 10 (35%), 54 score 7 or 8, and 24 score 0 to 6 (20%). eNPS = 35 - 20 = 15.

Raket Parts B.V. is a fictional company created for Insyt.

Definitions vary. Survey timing, anonymity and who is invited change the score a lot, so compare only like with like. Check how your organisation calculates it.
