Why it matters

Comparing with the same period last year removes most seasonal effects.

Where it is used

Board reports, sales dashboards and annual reports. Used by FP&A analysts, sales leaders, data analysts and investors.

How to calculate it

YoY growth % = (this period - same period last year) ÷ same period last year × 100

Worked example

ILLUSTRATION. If Raket Parts B.V. revenue were €6,400,000 in September 2025 against €5,800,000 in September 2024, YoY growth would be (6,400,000 - 5,800,000) / 5,800,000 x 100 = 10.3%.
Why an illustration: the practice records start in October 2024 while systems were being filled. October 2025 (€7.63 million) against October 2024 (€0.54 million) would show +1,323%, a data start effect, not growth.

Raket Parts B.V. is a fictional company created for Insyt.

Definitions vary. Fiscal and calendar years, trading days and acquisitions all change like-for-like comparisons. Check how your organisation calculates it.
