Note
A structured display rather than a single elementary chart.
The data you need
- Layout
- Wide metric summary
- Fields
- Metric: text; Actual: number; Target: number; Unit: text
- One row is
- One performance measure with comparable actual and target. What is the grain?
- Rules
- Allow different units across rows but not within one comparison. Define favourable direction and status rules.
- Optional
- Prior,Period,Owner and Status.
- Preparation
- Define every KPI's unit, period, target and favourable direction before deriving statuses.
- Units
- State each metric's unit. Achievement or completion needs its goal/baseline denominator; status colours and ordinal ratings are not numeric units.
Worked example
Revenue 120, target 100 meets target; defects 3%, target 2% misses a lower-is-better target. Favourable direction differs.
| Metric | Actual | Target | Unit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue | 120 | 100 | SEK thousands |
| Defects | 3 | 2 | percent |
