Quadrant chart
- Relationship
What it shows
Two measures split into four boxes, for prioritising.
When to use it
Use a two-variable scatter to categorise items against two meaningful decision thresholds.
Worked example
Plot initiatives by estimated benefit on the horizontal axis and delivery effort vertically. Define high benefit as at least €50k and low effort as fewer than 20 person-days before labelling a quadrant.
Data required
One record per item, two comparable measures, justified cut-off values and readable point labels or tooltips.
Checks and common mistakes
Do not let automatically chosen midpoints imply policy thresholds. Show uncertainty and test whether rankings change if the cut-offs move.
More accessible alternative
An ordered prioritisation table can be clearer when many points overlap.
